What's inside each guide?

Each Socratic Anchor Guide is a two-part document that works together to first build deep conceptual understanding, then assess it in an AP exam format. They're designed for students in 11th and 12th grade and map directly to the AP Cybersecurity course framework.

The guides treat AI as a thinking partner rather than an answer machine — students are pushed to ask follow-ups, challenge assumptions, and explore edge cases before moving to practice testing.

Socratic Study Guide
A set of rich, open-ended questions mapped to each topic's learning objectives. Students type each question into an AI to explore the concept in depth — and are prompted to push beyond the first answer with follow-ups, examples, and challenges to assumptions.

Anchor Practice Test
25 multiple-choice questions directly mapped to the unit's learning objectives. Every question includes the correct answer and a full explanation — so students can review their reasoning immediately and teachers can spot knowledge gaps before the AP Exam.

A suggested classroom flow

Step 1 — Before class
Assign the Socratic questions as prep work
Students use an AI tool (such as Claude or ChatGPT) to work through the Part 01 questions for the upcoming topics. Encourage them to copy the exact question, then push the conversation further with follow-ups.
Step 2 — Class opener (10–15 min)
Debrief with a Socratic discussion
Pick two or three questions from Part 01 to discuss as a class. Ask students to share what surprised them, where their AI gave conflicting answers, or what follow-up questions they generated. This surfaces misconceptions early.
Step 3 — During instruction
Use questions to anchor new concepts
As you introduce each topic, refer back to specific Socratic questions. The questions are written to frame the "why" behind each learning objective, so they work naturally as concept anchors during direct instruction.
Step 4 — After instruction
Administer the Anchor Practice Test
Have students complete the Part 02 practice test independently. Because answers and explanations are included in the document, this can work as self-paced review or as a low-stakes formative check you collect.
Step 5 — Review & reteach
Use results to target weak objectives
Each question is tagged to a topic (e.g., "Question 03 · Topic 1.1"). Tally misses by topic to identify which learning objectives need more time before moving on — or before the AP Exam.
Teacher Tips
Encourage follow-up prompting
Each guide reminds students to push past the AI's first response. Model this in class: show what a "lazy" AI conversation looks like vs. one that asks "why," "what if," and "give me a counterexample."
Great for small group work
Split students into pairs or trios, each assigned 2–3 Socratic questions to investigate. Groups then teach-back their question to the class. The Part 02 test becomes a team accountability check.
Self-grading saves prep time
The Anchor Practice Test includes the correct answer and a full explanation for every question. Assign it as homework — students self-grade and annotate any question they missed before your next class.
Track objective-level gaps
Every practice question is tagged to a topic number. Build a simple spreadsheet tracking which objectives students miss most — then address those before the AP Exam window opens.
Discuss AI disagreement openly
Students will sometimes get conflicting answers from different AIs, or from the same AI on different days. Use this as a teachable moment: AI is a tool for exploration, not a final authority — just like any single source.
Use guides as unit review
The guides also work well as end-of-unit review. Have students revisit the Socratic questions after completing a unit — they'll find their answers are richer the second time and can see how much their understanding has grown.
