Build an Active Directory OU Structure

Organize a new domain's directory and protect each container from accidental deletion.

Scenario

Northwind Cartage just made you a junior systems administrator. The company's first Windows domain controller, HQ-DC01, was promoted yesterday and the domain northwind.lan is now live. Every account currently lands in the default Users container, which makes delegating help-desk rights and linking per-department policy impossible. Before any accounts are migrated, your manager wants the directory reorganized to mirror the org chart — and wants accidental-deletion protection switched on for every OU so a stray right-click can't wipe out a whole department.

Department OUs (at the domain root)

  • Finance
  • Operations
  • Dispatch
  • HelpDesk
  • MemberServers
  • Workstations
  • ITAdmins
  • Procurement

Sub-OUs inside Procurement

  • VendorRelations
  • SeasonalBuyers

Protect all ten OUs from accidental deletion.
