Tiered Syslog on a Distribution Switch

N10-007 · 3.3 APNET · 4.5.B APNET · 4.5.C assignmentId: netplus-switch-syslog

You're Mara Okonkwo, network operations lead at Tidewater Botanical Gardens. The distribution switch in the Greenhouse Annex IDF — tbg-dist-sw01 — has been running with logging untuned, so the local console drowns in routine chatter while the central collector misses real warnings.

Tune logging by severity. On the standard scale, 0 is the most urgent (emergencies) and 7 is the noisiest (debugging). Each destination keeps everything at or above the level you set — a lower number means a stricter, quieter filter.

Work in the console at right. Type ? at any prompt for help. The checklist and severity ladder update as you go.
